With a huge M60 comes huge responsibilities.

My uncle was a captain in the army. He was a big guy and hence carried the most powerful firearm being the M60 machine gun.

The were on an OP in (classified) and they encountered a village. The people were all native white skinned people and barely spoke English.

My uncles called to the HQ via radio and informed them of an unexpected encounter. He was supposed to ambush a convey and no resistance was expected. The convoy was told to be consisted of 1 tank and IFV with 2 trucks and a jeep. The time was 05:00 and they were expecting the convey at 06:00. He was told by the HQ to move up to the ambush location regardless of this strange incident. But my uncle was intelligent. He expected that the village natives could be hostile judging by the whispers and hostile nature. He asked a private to stay back near the village as a scout and started building up a bunker-ish structure to mount his MG.

As the clock struck 06:00, it was dead silence in the jungle. The AT soldiers were ready and had their LAW launchers aimed towards the road. they waited till 06:30. The convoy was not there yet!

My uncle contacted the HQ via those bulky old telephone backpacks and told them about the delay. All soldiers were prone to avoid blowing off the cover. My uncle turned his big MG towards the village and as if he was expecting something. He took out his heavy binoculars and looked through them as if to make sure it was safe to move back to the base. Suddenly he saw the village people approaching, but with AK-47s and Rifles towards their location. They were approximately 500 m away. His suspicion turned to reality. The village natives had a spy among them, and he radioed the convoy about the ambush. The troops from the convoy were all spotted approaching from the jungles towards the east. Now it was kill or get killed. My Uncle did his prayers and mowed down the whole village population!

Private Ryan was the one tasked with my uncle. He was an experienced marksman and took down multiple High value targets like MG soldiers and Tank drivers with his M24. His cover was blown, and he suffered 4 casualties in that crossfire. My uncle managed to mow down the whole village population with his M60 but lost many brothers.

The fight went on for 5 hours with grenades and bullets flying but as the reinforcements arrived, the enemy had to retreat.

The Chinook dropped a whole squad for help and he was able to evac safely with his 4 brothers. Later, an AT soldier form the enemy convoy team managed to fire his launcher at my uncle which severely wounded him. He lost his leg and 3 brothers.

As he narrates his story, he asks to not reveal the OP name or the place where it took place to keep the confidentiality.
