How to survive a nuclear attack?

 

With the current scenario or Russia Ukraine coupled with a global tension and Chinese surveillance on USA, this guide will prove useful for many.

One of the most infamous and feared weapons made by humankind, was dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Now how do you escape one?

Good question solider, before that you must know how a nuclear warhead or bomb works.

There are 5 stages of a nuclear warhead detonation. Let’s consider a 1 mega ton fission bomb for reference.

After the air raid alarms go off you will most likely hear an infamous weeee sound while the bomb drops and that’s the only time you have to run for cover. In case of a missile delivered warhead, you have to rely on your vision or on the news as there is not any particular sign for that one. Either via ICBM or via a cruise missile.

1. Flash:

A bright flash of light will temporarily blind you. This light will blind everyone within 80 kilometers. After the classic weeeee sound, of the bomb falling it will be much better to close your eyes. The blindness may last form 5 mins to 2 hours depending on your proximity with the explosion. This is the best time to evacuate and relocate.

2. Heatwave:

A strong heat wave will emerge burning everything in 8 kilometers radius and severely scorching anything up to 20 kilometers. Get in Cover!

3. Release of nuclear radiation in the environment:

The fission is now complete and now the radiation spread begins. The first 2 kilometers radius is already inhabitable.

4. Mushroom cloud.

That’s one of the few signature signs of a nuclear bomb. You must get in your hazmat suits or get inside a proper cemented building because you won’t survive what is about to come. It is a sign that radiation fallout will start soon.

5. Radiation fallout:

Now you have to get indoors as fast as possible, the small radiation particles will fall like sand form the sky. 100-kilometer radius is poisoned and will be radioactive. Even if a single particle manages to touch your skin, you are poisoned, it needs to be rinsed off urgently. Radiation poisoning will mutate your genes and DNA. This will cause cancer in your body. You will only live for 6 years more with proper treatment.

What to do after coming in contact with radioactive particle or radiation?

Wash you whole body and the area of contact with soap and water vigorously. Also DO NOT apply conditioner to your hair as it causes radioactive particle to stick to your hair. This can further move down to your scalp and get absorbed by the body.

Also, avoid going out and if necessary, cover every part of your body and breath through a mask or cloth. Try not to touch visibly contaminated objects and DO NOT go near the detonation site. The effects of the fallout can remain for up to 2 months in an area, so move out only after being properly covered or by government evacuation agency. Listen closely to the instructions given by your local government. Make sure you follow their advice.
